Established in 1964 by Luke Gilmartin, Gilwood Fabricators Company Ltd started out by producing high quality textile machinery for the local textile industry. On the decline of the industry, Gilwood expanded into the Stainless Steel Fabrication sector where it has built up an excellent reputation as one of the North West’s leading suppliers of specialist machinery and equipment.

Gilwood Fabrictors is a family-run business based in Heywood, Lancashire, within easy reach of the M62 motorway. Owing to its rapid growth during the nineties, the company continues to expand and is today one of the leading fabricators of stainless steel and nickel alloys, with over forty years of experience. We have a proven track record as experts in the design and fabrication of bespoke products to serve the worldwide petrochemical, pharmaceutical, nuclear, paper, glass and food industries. We apply the same precision and engineering excellence throughout the whole of our extensive range. Our strengths lie in technically complex projects including the fabrication of pressure vessels and all related equipment, as well as scrubber and skid package units up to thirty tonnes in weight. We regularly work with CuNi Pipework, Super Duplex and Hastelloy and have appropriate weld procedures in place to deal with this work.

Our purpose-built factory has an array of up-to-the-minute technology which is fully-equipped with a wide range of fabrication equipment, and we have the capabilities to design, manufacture, test and inspect all products before despatch of an impressive variety of work capabilities. Our investment in a Plasma-Arc Welding Unit has allowed us to vastly improve our highly-effective and competitive manufacturing service. Not only has this given us the opportunity of an automated welding process, but has also enhanced both the weld quality and our work capacity. Gilwood Fabricators Company Ltd are highly versatile, meaning that we can produce a huge array of products in all dimensions , with production ranging from one-off, custom-made items, to batch production. Our impressive portfolio of work is testimony to our commitment to superior quality standards, and which includes process plant equipment, textile machines, and all sizes and types of packaged units in a wide range of premium quality materials.

At Gilwood our specialist team of welders are coded to ASME IX and BS EN 287 and 288 in TIG, MIG, and Manual Metal Arc, and are continuously engaged in work on pressure vessels to BS 5500 and ASME. We take enormous pride in our quality assurance and standards and currently hold formal independent approval of BS EN 9001:2000 from Lloyds, which has been renewed up to 2008. In addition, we hold independent approvals for ASME U Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, as well as ASME VIII DIV 1 and other international manufacturing codes including ISPESL and Stoomwezen. We also hold SQLO approval and in 2006 we achieved the China M Stamp.

Gilwood regularly update and invest in Yr 2000 compliant computerised systems which allow us to design and implement bespoke quotation and project management programmes, making our turnaround of quotations both highly-efficient and competitive. Our highly-skilled team of designers use the latest technology and software to ensure that our design service is second-to-none in quality and efficiency, for the manufacture of specialised fabrications across all industry sectors.
