Gilwood has successfully completed the China Licence Audit for renewing the CSEI Certificate of Authorisation used in the supply of pressure vessel related equipment to China. This is the 2nd time the Society has renewed Gilwood's certificate and we are now authorised for a further four years. Gilwood will be able to continue with the design, inspection, manufacturing, of the highly specialist pressure vessel portfolio. The Certificates of Authorisation held by Gilwood cover the supply of pressure vessels, pumps, piping systems, and supports. CSEI Audit team members assess the Manual, drawings, procedures, reports and other information necessary to determine the Quality Programme is in compliance with all appropriate CSEI Codes and Standards. This is a long and detailed process which scrutinises Gilwood's products and services to the high standard required for the petrochemical, pharmaceutical, oil, gas, food, paper, nuclear power and bio technology industries. Gilwood has held certificate of authorisation since 2006 and the CSEI Chinese Manufacturing Licence have been used since this date. This successful renewal means Gilwood has 4 years experience of operating to the high standards required by CSEI.

Carried out in-house, Magnetic particle inspection is a process of non-destructive testing for detecting surface and sub-surface defects in magnetic retentive materials. The process uses an externally applied magnetic field or the part is magnetized using; either AC or DC current passed through the part. With the principle of magnetic flux a leakage field is created at discontinuities ie (cracks, voids ).
The presence of a surface or sub surface flaw (void or crack ) in the material allows the magnetic flux to leak at the flaw. This deformation of the magnetic field is not limited to the immediate locality of the defect but extends outside the part. The distance the leakage field extends to the surface and to the outside of the part into air relates to the strength of the magnetic field induced into the part. The amount of magnetism relates to the size of the part and amount of current AC or DC or externally applied magnetic field to magnetize the part. This allows different types of magnetic particles commonly Iron Oxide to gather at the leakage field.
This is a quick and easy surface inspection technique which is suitable for a wide range of industries.
Gilwoods has recently expanded its design capabilities and invested in the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software package Nozzle/Pro. The bespoke software has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of ASME VIII and can evaluate the effect of external loads from Nozzles, Saddles and other common attachments. This will improve Gilwoods ability to assess vessel attachments which would have historically been outside the scope of the traditional methods such as WRC 107/297/368. The results are faster design times, less conservative wall thicknesses and more detailed and well presented reports. The purchase of this software is part of Gilwoods strategy to invest in the latest technologies and innovations to ensure they remain at the leading edge of there industry.
